Mike Rompel
President of Posso Pizza DBA Domino’s Hawai’i
I was born at Fort Bragg, NC in 1971 and grew up outside of Chicago until my mom and step-dad relocated to Las Vegas in 1982. I graduated Clark High School in 1989, and moved out on my own at 17. While going to school I was working multiple jobs, always knowing I wanted to own my own business. Although I didn’t really know what that meant, I knew I wanted to be in control of my own destiny. I had a teacher at Clark that basically said we are destined to be what are parents are and probably wouldn’t move far from the neighborhoods we were in and the earners we grew up around.
My career at Domino’s took off quickly as I put my head down and just worked to survive. I worked for the parent company in various role’s for nearly 8 years. I bought my first store in downtown San Francisco in 1998 with help from a partner/mentor. Sometimes being a mentee isn’t what you expect and it usually doesn’t come they way you want, but if you learn, you’ll earn. I bought my first store on my own in 2000 for $10,000.
9/11/2001 changed our world in the USA and it changed my commitment to life. I met Karla, we quickly had a family and I committed to working for them. We were making some money in SF but it wasn’t a life. In 2005 we had sold a store to buy a house. In 2006 I traveled to Oahu to help a friend out and ended up moving to raise my family. In 2008 we found ourselves broke and our family of 4 was living in a 1 bedroom apartment of the Domino’s store in Wahiawa. I prayed out, and we found God and his word and it put clarity and order into our lives. It was still a long grind to committing our lives to God and his people but eventually we found our way. As they say, the rest is history.
We built the entire Domino’s business in Hawai’i by building the best team possible for today, looking to get better, tomorrow. For 25 years my entire value was my Domino’s business. Almost 7 years ago we aggressively diversified those earnings into Life Insurance, Real Estate, Mutual Funds, Interest bearing cash accounts, silver, closely held equity investments, and a Captive Insurance Company which provides for maximum tax deferment on retained earnings.
I’ve been in business over 30 years now. It took me 25 years to figure out, in America, you can go from zero to financially independent in 10 years, if you have a strategy, a blue print and a mentor. Karla and I did it on our own until we found God and we found brothers and sisters, and we found financial freedom, with them!
We are predestined in that our all-knowing God, knows who will choose him, however, the rest is up to us!
